British music magazine NME has revealed the 20 best indie tunes that trendy couples have their first dance to on their wedding day.
Although the publication is famed for being at the cutting edge of music with its finger firmly on the pulse of underground bands, established acts like David Bowie, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles have all made it in there with the classic tunes ‘Heroes’, ‘Wild Horses’ and ‘This Boy’.
It would not be NME though if there were not some strange choices, and both The Flaming Lips and The Smiths made it in with ‘Do You Realize??’ and ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ respectively. Both songs explore the theme of death.

Also, established British acts Pulp, Florence and the Machine, Spiritualized, The Maccabees and The Cure all made an appearance in the listing, though it is an American band that takes the top spot.
New York City-based trio the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ song ‘Maps’ is the one that NME has named as the top indie tune for a first dance.
