Spacious and elegant guest rooms for wedding couples

“We had this beautiful converted barn that we decided to turn into a guesthouse,” says Mandi Magee, who runs Oaklea Barns in Merseyside with her racehorse trainer partner, Paul Green. “We opened in May and, considering we’re in our infancy, we’ve had great interest from local newlyweds,” she adds.

The six guest suites at Oaklea Barns are both spacious and elegantly decorated to Mandis stylish tastes. No expense has been spared to ensure that guests enjoy the finest home comforts, from the solid oak furniture, to the memory foam mattresses, flatscreen TVs and sleek ensuite bathrooms.

Every room can sleep up to four people, with comfortable sprung sofa beds in most of them – perfect for families, and especially bridal parties. The versatility doesn’t stop there either, because the Lily Suite can transform into a twin or family room with a cot and the top floor Sunflower Suite comprises two adjoining rooms that can accommodate a family of two adults and four children or four adults, such as the bride and her bridesmaids.  And pre wedding parties.

The finest standards of hospitality

“A young guy from Maghull was getting married and they came and checked us out,” continues Mandi. “His wife booked it for the day before the wedding, the family stayed over, and they had a fab time. The whole top floor was for the bride and bridesmaids, and they actually left for the church from here.

“They had a champagne breakfast and then I laid on a buffet lunch for them. I put marquees up, so that all the family could come and congregate here. It was just amazing, and that’s what sparked it off for me to think that weddings are the area we want to be in.

We like looking after wedding guests and they enjoy being here,” she adds.

If you hadn’t already noticed, Mandie constantly strives to give her guests the finest standards of hospitality.

With that in mind, she’s in the process of converting a garage into a pretty breakfast room overlooking their duck-filled pond, complete with sun-trap conservatory, al fresco dining deck and an honesty bar.

That’s not all either, because by Spring 2016 she also plans to open her own on-site spa. This brand new facility will feature a beautician, nail technician, hairdresser and masseur, as well as a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna for the use of guests. So brides-to-be and their entourage can feel extra special with some lavish pampering.

Peace, privacy in Merseyside Countryside

“We’re different because we’ve got the beautiful scenery, a family atmosphere, it’s so relaxed, and the way I look after people,” says Mandi Magee. “Guests feel at home here and as soon as they walk through the gate they relax. That’s really how we’d like brides to feel before their wedding because it can be such a stressful time.”



As well as being the ideal pre-wedding retreat, Oaklea Barns is also the perfect location for a post-wedding getaway or mini-moon. We have brides getting ready here before traveling to their wedding, with their Liverpool wedding photographer.  The area makes for great backdrops for their wedding photographs.

Mandie can even arrange for airport transfers for couples planning to head off on their honeymoons, after they’ve enjoyed some well-deserved peace, privacy and luxury first in the lovely Lydiate countryside of course.
