When Amy Ewing and Alex Simmons decided to spend the rest of their lives together, they had initially planned on having a small celebration. However, when they saw a competition for the ultimate free wedding, which was offered by the owner of a bridal shop, they knew they had to grab the opportunity with both hands.
This is what led to the happy couple’s mammoth double world record-breaking attempt, which included 130 bridesmaids and 103 ushers. Amy and Alex managed to take the world record for both most bridesmaids and most ushers at a single wedding.
To meet the strict criteria that the Guinness Book of World Records sets, the couple had to know everyone within their wedding party – meaning that the blushing bride’s side included friends from all over the world. Her radio presenter husband even brought in some rugby league stars that he knew through his sports show.
Alex said of his whirlwind romance and ultimate wedding:
“This had made our dreams come true. The fact we can have everyone there is amazing. In the last couple of weeks my auntie had died. I realised I don’t see my family apart from funerals so this is a chance to celebrate.”
Certainly, not everyone’s big day will include such a large wedding party, though for those who do it’s important that a top wedding photographer from Lancashire or the surrounding area is used. This means the photos taken will be able to utilise the more interesting aspects of the happy day.
