Generous brides donate wedding dress for stillborn babies
I've found a selection of fabulous charitable organisations in the UK, providing some comfort to parents who have a lost a child prior to birth. With the aid of some generous brides, utilising their used wedding dresses and turning them into garments for stillborn children and for those who have a terminal illness.
We cannot accept wedding dresses but below are several charities that do.
Charity for donating your wedding dress
The charity, called Cherished Gowns for Angel Babies UK, says that over 3,000 babies unfortunately suffer this fate and often, during these devastating times, parents can struggle to find appropriate attire in which to dress the babies, and this is where the charity steps in.
Another fabulous non profit charity is Dresses for Angels, who also take bridesmaid dress donations, and turn them into beautiful gowns for stepping babies. Creating a full pack for families. Started in January 2016.
I became aware of the site after a client mentioned they had noted their wedding dress, after all, most of the time wedding dresses are locked up one the wardrobe in stuck in the lost never to been again. So what a lovely way of extending the love.
Where to donate my old wedding dress?
Over the years I’ve been asked, “where to donate my old wedding dress”. And it wasn’t until I saw this fabulous charity where you can donate your wedding dress for babies. I have realised that can be another beautiful reason for the wedding dress to bring happiness.
Wedding Wishing Well
Fabulous wedding charities like Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, launched in 2012, helping to fund and organise weddings for the terminally ill. Have wedding dress donation facilities. Just take a photo of your old wedding dress you want to donate and email them a photo info@weddingwishingwell.org.uk
Gift of a Wedding
Gift of a wedding, UK based wedding dress charity, also has a donation scheme. A lovely charity organising weddings for those who are terminal ill or with life shortening illness. Totally reliant on wedding supplier donations.
The Red Cross
The red cross has wedding dress donation points at their charity shops. With a specialist bridal shop in Edinburgh.
Donate your wedding dress
By using a wedding dress that has been gifted to them, those at the company can make at least 20 gowns for their Angel Babies. The organisation was established by Lynda Garret and Megan Mckay last year, taking inspiration from similar charities around the world.
It’s really easy to donate your wedding dress, just get in contact with the team and they will sort it all out for you.
Objectives with dress donations
Mckay of Cherished Gowns said of its objectives and its donations:
“Our aim is to make sure no baby born too soon or too late has to be buried naked. A lot of the dress donations we receive are from people who have been keeping it in the attic but don’t really have a use for it.”
This admirable organisation is providing a heart-rending service that will surely touch the hearts of many, and anyone looking to volunteer or donate can contact the organisation directly.
A unique charity
As professional Liverpool Wedding Photographer, I’m all too aware that weddings are unique celebrations of love, though they can also contribute to a celebration of life, however fleeting. By just donating your old wedding dress to a UK charity.
