Changing Your Wedding Date: The Pros & Cons
Planning a wedding in Liverpool is stressful to say the least. But deciding to change your wedding date may be equally as hard. So let's look Pros & Cons to a wedding date change.
With all the uncertainty that’s been brought along by COVID-19 and the subsequent three week lockdown, many people are starting to rethink their wedding date.
A lot of us have our hearts set on one date in particular, or one specific season, but it’s worth weighing the options before making a final decision. Perhaps being a bit more flexible could give you the wedding of your dreams.
What should you do?
We’ve taken some time to put the pros and cons of each side by side, to help you make the right decision for your special day. After all being a Liverpool wedding photographer for 13 years I have plenty of experience in planning weddings.
Sticking with the same date can be appealing, especially if it holds significance to you. You’re already planning everything for that time of year, but it would also mean waiting an extra 365 days…
Pros
- Everything is already planned for the time of year you want, so you may not need to change a thing other than the date to 2021.
- The extra time before your wedding gives your friends and family plenty of notice to make sure they’re available.
- You’ll get a lot of extra time to pull any last minute loose-threads together.
- With the wedding being further away, you have longer to save and may be able to relax a little with your spending on other things.
- Choosing to have your wedding a year later gives you a lot more certainty whilst waiting to find out how long life will be impacted by current events.
- If it’s the date of your dreams and holds significance to you both, it’s still going to feel like the perfect choice.
Cons
- The date may not be available for your venue or vendors. If that’s the case you’ll need to make new decisions, which could impact your costs and theming.
- It could feel like life has been put on hold whilst waiting another year before saying ‘I do’.
- If any of your guests are travelling from far away and have tickets booked, it could mean additional travel costs for them.
- Will all of your guests be available on your 2021 wedding date? It’s also worth considering the elderly or those with health issues.
- Your dream date will be on a different day of the week.
- There’s likely to be competition from both 2020 and 2021 brides when booking for next year, and wedding suppliers will be in higher demand.
Overall it seems if you have everything 100% set and there’s no wiggle room then picking the same or a similar date in 2021 could be the best option.
Postponing your wedding
If however, after reading our lists above you’re thinking about keeping your wedding in 2020, we’ve put together a 5 point starting rescheduling wedding guide to help.
If you do decide to postpone your wedding, why not take the opportunity to book a pre-wedding shoot, and gain the experience of a photoshoot together before the big day. Not only will this help you to feel more at ease on your wedding day, you could use the photographs for your new ‘Save the Date’ notices.
