Last month’s bridal fashion week, held in New York, has given us a hint of what the future holds for bridal fashion, and it appears that top fashion designers are pushing it towards the more revealing.
Designers such as Reem Acra and Naeem Khan went for see-through gowns that left little to the imagination and had one website, The Atlantic, describe the ‘sexification’ of the bridal dress.
There were, of course, some slightly more demure pieces on show, and designers often use the catwalk to show off their skills and artistry as well as trying to kick off new trends.
Many women, however, are still keen to don the traditional white dress that has come to symbolise the modern wedding.
The white of the wedding dress was originally a representation of the purity and virginity of the bride, though today, as attitudes have changed, the classic gown is more simply seen as a traditional element of the visuals.
The fashion week does certainly reflect the changes that have taken place within the area of bridal fashion, even if it is an exaggerated representation.
Regardless of what kind of wedding attire that brides, and grooms, choose to wear, it’s an essential part of the process these days to hire a professional wedding photographer. Liverpool can certainly boast of its status as a city that kick starts many a sartorial trend. Who knows – perhaps the new sultry wedding gown may be another.
