One happy pair recently had a wedding with a difference, when they were wed midway through completing the gruelling 26.2 mile London Marathon.
Laura Harvey and Paul Elliot ran the first 13 miles before stopping off and saying their vows before dozens of guests at St Katherine’s Dock, which allowed the loving couple to cross the finishing line as husband and wife.
The two said of the event:
“Everyone thinks it’s a bit mad, but we’re both sporty and wanted to do something different. We’re hoping we get to the party first, then see how we are after one drink.”
Certainly, if couples are planning on hosting such an unusual event it would be wise to hire a professional for their wedding photos. Liverpool is hosting its own Rock and Roll Marathon on Sunday, 14th June, so future brides and grooms who enjoy sporting activities may want to pencil this into their diary.
Naturally, not everyone would want to marry midway through a marathon, or perhaps even compete in one, though it does illuminate a growing trend in the wedding industry – the themed wedding.
There is no right way or wrong way to be joined in matrimony. Any big day is special to the people who are at the centre of it, and as the 80-strong party of this wedding showed, no matter where the ceremony is and what its theme, family and friends will always rally to attend.
