A lucky husband who misplaced his wedding ring at Weymouth harbour in 2009 has been reunited with the special token of his affection, after his friend retrieved it when it was washed ashore.
The lifeboatman from Dorset, Mark Thorpe, lost the ring when he was helping launch a boat out to an emergency six years ago.

Numerous attempts were made around this time, and the unlucky newlywed even tried to use a metal detector to source the missing ring. It was, however, to no avail and unfortunately this was one search the rescue man had to call off.

As luck would have it though, Mark’s friend Steve Woolford, whilst walking along the harbour, remembered the hunt for the ring and, as the tide was low, took the opportunity to initiate his own little search and rescue mission. Stumbling upon a gleaming little object, Steve picked it up for his friend Mark to identify, and it was indeed his wedding ring. Ecstatic with the find, Mark has now promised to buy Steve a very nice bottle of whisky for his efforts and endeavour.

This delightful little tale serves as a reminder of how, long after the wedding day has come and gone, couples still revel in the symbols of the commitment they make on that special day.
